SPRING PREPARATION NEW!
We are no longer requiring a swim test to become eligible for enrollment in
the Little Guard or Jr. Lifeguard programs, but your child must know how to swim
to participate. To help you determine if your child is ready for Little Guards
or Jr. Guards we are offering a one-day skills assessment on Saturday, March 28,
2009, 9:00 am - noon at Harvey West Pool. The Jr. Guard program requires
participants to willingly swim a minimum of 200 to 300 yards in the open ocean,
run a minimum of 500 yards and participate in paddling races and other beach competitions
daily. The Little Guard program requires daily participation in entering and exiting
through ocean waves and conditioning activities including calisthenics, running
and beach games. SWIM ASSESSMENT: No appointment necessary. Drop
in, first-come, first-served! Date: Saturday, March 28, 2009, 9:00 am
- noon Location: Harvey West Pool, 275 Harvey West Blvd. Criteria:
Participants may not touch the pool bottom or hold on to any fixed object during
the assessment. Little Guards: Swim 25 yards continuously and tread
water for one minute in deep water (12 ft. deep). Jr. Guards: Swim 200-yard
continuously (8 laps of continuous swimming), tread water for three minutes in
deep water (12 ft. deep). Recommended Preparation and Skill Levels: Little
Guards: Practice swimming and/or Swimmer Level 4 and up are strongly encouraged. Jr.
Guards: Practice swimming and Riptides or Swimmer Level 6 are strongly recommended. SUMMER
REGISTRATION INFORMATION: Participants may enroll in Jr. Lifeguards and
Little Guards as early as April 18. See Summer Activity Guide available in late
March for registraton details. PLEASE NOTE, no refunds will be issued should your
child choose not to participate once each session has started. Hence the free
assessment is highly recommended to determine if your child is ready for the program.
